GAA

Last nights GAA County Board meeting confirmed the nominations for positions at the county convention on Monday Dec 8th

Among the nominations for the main positions are

Chairperson - Mick Mullen, Celbridge

Vice Chairperson - Larry Curtin, Rathangan

Secretary - Lorraine Woulfe, Naas, Noel McKenna, Ballyteague, Elaine Connolly, St. Laurence’s.

Treasurer - Alan Dunney, Caragh

Communications Officer - Lorraine Woulfe, Naas (outgoing m), Rory McGrath, Kildangan and Sara Holden, Sarsfields


 

SOCCER

The Republic of Ireland under-17s have the chance to top their World Cup group later today.

Two Kildare players are among the team.

Shamrock Rovers players Maynooth's Alex Noonan in goal and Ellistown's Michael Noonan who scored 2 goals so far.

Colin O'Brien's side have already secured a place in the last 32 - but will progress as group winners if they get a point against Paraguay.

Kick off in Doha is at half one Irish time.

Meanwhile, the Republic of Ireland senior men's squad will train again today ahead of Thursday's World Cup qualifier against Portugal in Dublin.



RUGBY

The Irish rugby squad step up preparations today for this weekend's test meeting with Australia at the Aviva Stadium.

Mack Hansen and Darragh Murray linked up with the squad yesterday, with Hansen having made good progress with a foot injury.

But Leinster's Jamie Osbourne has been ruled out of the rest of the series with a shoulder problem.

Garry Ringrose and Josh van der Flier are both nursing hamstring strains ahead of Saturday's game while Stuart McCloskey is expected to train this week.


GOLF

The DP World Tour have announced the inauguration of a new award named after Rory McIlroy.

The Rory McIlroy Award will be presented to the individual member of the DP World Tour who performs best in all four major championships in a given season.

It has been set up to commemorate McIlroy's achievement of winning the career Grand Slam after his triumph at the Masters earlier this year.


RACING

There's racing at Fairyhouse this afternoon, with the first off shortly after half 12.
