Semi-finals of Africa Cup of Nations this evening

SOCCER

Republic of Ireland Under 21 international Ross Tierney scored his first goal for Motherwell in their 1-1 draw against St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership last night.

Jonny Hayes was on the mark for Aberdeen, who played out a 1-1 stalemate with Ross County.

The derby matches involving Dundee and Dundee United and Hibernian and Hearts finished goalless.

Celtic can go top of the table tonight if they beat Rangers in the Old Firm derby.

Kick off at Parkhead is at 7.45pm.

Elsewhere, Chiedozie Ogbene (PR: Chee-dozee Ogbenay) was on target as League One leaders Rotherham United won 5-0 at Doncaster Rovers.

Police questioning of Mason Greenwood will continue today.

The Manchester United forward was further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greenwood was originally arrested on Sunday after a woman came forward on social media with accusations of physical violence.

Barcelona's signing of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang will be formalised today.

Arsenal confirmed the striker's departure last night, with the 32-year old now a free agent.

Aubameyang has already been training with his new teammates, but his registration has not been lodged with La Liga.

The Africa Cup of Nations reaches the semi-final stage this evening.

Burkina Faso are playing at this stage of the competition for the fourth time in their history, and play two-time runners-up Senegal.

Kick-off is at 7pm.

RUGBY

France will be without Teddy Thomas (pr: Toe-mah) for Saturday week's Six Nations meeting with Ireland in Paris.

The Racing winger sustained a hamstring injury during training sessions with Les Bleus this week.

Thomas will naturally miss their opening Six Nations game at home to Italy on Sunday.

England will be without forwards Courtney Lawes and Jonny Hill for their opener with Scotland at the weekend.

Lawes failed to pass the return-to-play protocols for concussion, while Hill is out of the Calcutta Cup clash with a lower leg stress fracture.

Prop Joe Marler left self-isolation and has re-joined the squad, after previously testing positive for Covid-19.

RACING

The all-weather track at Dundalk hosts an eight-race meeting this afternoon.

The first goes to post at 1.30pm.
