England beat Czech Republic 1-0 at Wembley

Soccer

England are into the last 16 of the European Championship as Group winners.

They beat the Czech Republic 1-0 at Wembley last night with Raheem Sterling scoring the only goal of the game.

Meanwhile Scotland have exited the competition.

They lost 3-1 to Croatia in Glasgow, with a Luka Modric wonder goal sending Croatia into the knockout stage.

England will face one of France, Germany or Portugal in the second round.

English manager, Gareth Southgate, is embracing what will be a difficult game:

World champions France lead Group F, and they play Portugal in Budapest tonight.

Germany host Hungary in Munich.

Both matches kick-off at 8pm.

Group E also reaches its conclusion, with Spain taking on Slovakia in Seville, and leaders Sweden facing Poland in Saint Petersburg.

Both games kick-off at 5pm.

GAA

Donegal's Michael Murphy is set to return for Sunday's Ulster senior football championship match against Down in Newry.

The county's talisman sustained a hamstring injury in a League game against Monaghan back in May.

HORSE RACING

Leading flat trainer Jim Bolger has been invited to the Dáil on July the 6th to substantiate claims over the issue of doping in horse racing.

Bolger, senior members of Horse Racing Ireland, the IHRB and the Irish Racehorse Trainers Association have been asked before an Oireachtas Committee to address Bolger's comments in the public domain.

Wexford handler Bolger told the Sunday Independent there will be "a Lance Armstrong in Irish racing".
