SOCCER

The Republic of Ireland will have to qualify via the playoff route for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.

France topped their qualifying group after a 1-0 win over Carla Ward's side last night, meaning they go through automatically to next year's finals

The draw for the playoffs will take place in Switzerland next Thursday.

TENNIS

19-year old James McGloughlin will face 23-year old Dylan Leeman today in the final of the ATP Challenger Dublin Wildcard Playoff

The winner of the match will receive a much-coveted wildcard for the ATP Challenger 75 Dublin, the largest men's tennis event in Ireland since 2008

The tournament will take place from June 14th to 20th at Elm Park Golf & Sports Club

 

Serena Williams made a winning comeback to competitive tennis at the Queen's Club Championship in London yesterday

Williams and her doubles partner Victoria Mboko - ranked 9th in the world - won in straight sets 7-6, 6-2
