Wednesday Morning Sports Update

Keeping you up to date on soccer, golf and racing.

SOCCER

Manchester City are in control of their EFL Cup semi-final against Newcastle.

They had a 2-nil win over the holders in the first leg at St James' Park.

The other last-four tie gets underway tonight, with Chelsea welcoming Premier League leaders Arsenal to Stamford Bridge for the first leg.

Michael Carrick says he "knows what it takes to succeed at Old Trafford" after being appointed Manchester United's head coach on a deal until the end of the season.

The former club captain, who won five Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time as a player, replaces Ruben Amorim - who was sacked last week.

Kieran Tierney believes Celtic are beginning to heal with Martin O'Neill back at the helm.

The Scottish Premiership champions have the chance to move above Rangers into second place with a win at Falkirk tonight.

Leaders Hearts take on Saint Mirren at Tynecastle, knowing a win would open a six-point gap at the summit.

GOLF

Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Cam Smith have turned down the opportunity to rejoin the PGA Tour - opting instead to commit to LIV golf.

When Brooks Koepka sealed a return to PGA Tour on Monday, a "Returning Member Programme" was written to try and entice the major winning trio to follow him.

But Rahm and DeChambeau both say they intend to honour their contracts with the Saudi-backed LIV.

RACING

The Gordon Elliott-trained Touch Me Not looks set to go off the favourite in today's feature race at Fairyhouse, the Grade Three Dan and Jane Moore Memorial Handicap Chase.

Willie Mullins' Western Diego will be hoping for a first victory over fences, and is one of four runners for the champion trainer.

That re-scheduled meeting gets underway at 12:45pm.
