ATHLETICS

Sarah Healy was left to rue a fourth-placed finish in the women's 5,000 metres final at the European Athletics Championships last night.

The Monkstown runner was less than a third of a second off the medals in Birmingham.

She'll return to action with the 1500 metres on Saturday.

 

This morning, Sophie Becker gets her women's 400-metres campaign underway from 11:05am.

Lauren Roy's heat in the 200-metres gets underway from 11:40am - she'll bid to join Rhasidat Adeleke in this evening's semi-finals.

2022 bronze medalist Mark English will go in the semi-finals of the 800-metres from 12:20pm.

In the evening session, Nicola Tuthill is in the Hammer Throw final at 7:45pm.

 

SWIMMING

There are three Irish medals hopefuls in tonight's finals at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris.

19-year-old John Shortt will be in the men's 200-metres backstroke final at 5.40pm - Irish time.

Mona McSharry came through second-fastest in qualifying for the women's 100-metres breaststroke final, which is underway just before 6pm and reigning Olympic champion Daniel Wiffen will be in the men's 800-metres freestyle final just after 7pm.

 

This morning, Victoria Catterson, Grace Davison and Danielle Farrell go in the heats of the women's 200-metres freestyle from 8:30pm.

Matthew Hamilton and Jacob Armon are in the field for the men's 100-metres butterfly.

Lottie Cullen and Danielle Hill will go for places in the women's 50-metres backstroke semi-finals.

The 200-metres breaststroke heats include Jack Kelly and Eoin Corby.

Ellen Walshe competes in the women's 400-metres individual medley.

 

SOCCER

Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain take on Europa League winners Aston Villa this evening in the UEFA Super Cup.

PSG are the reigning Super Cup champions, after beating Tottenham Hotspur on penalties last year.

The match at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg in Austria kicks off at 8pm.

 

GOLF

Rory McIlroy has been paired with Scottie Scheffler for the opening two rounds of the FedEx St Jude Championship in Tennessee.

Shane Lowry will begin his campaign alongside Max Homa on Thursday.

It's the first of three playoff events in the PGA Tour's season-ending series.
