SOCCER

Nathan Collins scored twice for Brentford, as they booked their place in the third round of the English League Cup last night.

Keith Andrews' side hammered Birmingham City 6-1.

Josh Honohan and Mason Melia made debuts for Lincoln City, in their 4-1 dismantling of Blackpool.

Leeds, Coventry and Ipswich were among the other winners last night.

There are more second-round ties down for decision tonight.

There's a 7:45pm start to Newcastle's hosting of West Brom, while Bradford take on Burnley, while Tottenham are at home to Charlton.

Then at 8pm, Everton make the trip to Preston North End.

Troy Parrott came off the bench to make his debut for new club Real Betis in La Liga last night.

They were 1-0 winners away to Valencia.

Celtic boss Martin O'Neill says it's 'majorly disappointing' to have blown a four goal advantage to lose 5-4 on aggregate to LASK in their Champions League play-off.

The Scottish champions went into the match 3-nil up against their Austrian opponents, but fell to a 5-1 defeat on the night.

ROWING

Mags Cremen and Zoe Hyde will go in the World Rowing Championship women's double sculls semi final this afternoon.

The duo topped their heat on Monday to secure their spot.

Before that, Fiona Murtagh is in the women's single sculls heats just after half 12, with Fintan McCarthy in the men's at around 10-to-1.

Ross Corrigan and Nathan Timoney are in the Men's Pair C Final.

While Imogen Magner and Natalie Long are in the women's pair semi-final.

RACING

The tricentenary celebrations will continue after yesterday's abandoned race card at Bellewstown.

Jockey Dylan Brown McGonagle was hospitalised after a fall in the opening race, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The remainder of yesterday's races were called off after further slips, but action is set to resume in Meath today from 3.50pm.
