GAA

Limerick lead the way with 13 nominations for the 2026 Hurling All Stars.

11 players from All-Ireland runners-up Galway make the shortlist, with Cork earning seven.

Limerick's Diarmaid Byrnes and Gearóid Hegarty are in the running for Hurler of the Year, alongside Cork's Brian Hayes.

Two Galway men - Jason Rabbitte and Cillian Trayers - make the shortlist for the Young Hurler of the Year.

They're joined by Cork's William Buckley.

The awards will be handed out at the All Stars banquet on October 30th.

Former Dublin goalkeeper Cliodhna O'Connor has been ratified as new manager of the Westmeath senior ladies footballers.

She had previously served as a coach with Westmeath, but this marks her first foray into intercounty management.

O'Connor was part of Dublin's All-Ireland-winning team in 2010.

Soccer

The Republic of Ireland squad are continuing their preparations to take on Kosovo in the opening game of their Nations League campaign tomorrow.

Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson is due to speak to media today for the first time since the Israeli FA hinted they could make an official complaint against him,

Hallgrimsson commented that his side will be "playing against genocide" in their two upcoming games against Israel.

UEFA have not yet received any complaint.

Arsenal needed a penalty in stoppage time to snatch a win in their opening game of the Women's Champions League last night.

The 2025 winners beat Kyra Carusa's Koge 1-nil at Meadow Park.

Manchester City fought back from 2-nil down to earn a 2-all draw with Bayern Munich.

Ireland captain Katie McCabe could be in action for Chelsea, with the opening round of games continuing tonight.

Lauren James will be unavailable for the Blues, who host Austria Vienna from 8 o'clock.

At the same time then reigning women's champions league champions Barcelona host Paris FC

The earlier kick offs see Roma take on Leuven and Servette face Lyon from 5:45

Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson says he will support manager Martin O'Neill - despite a difficult start to the season.

O'Neill said he needed time to reflect on his future following their second defeat in a week against rivals Rangers.

But Nicholson says the club will "come together" to back the manager and his team.

Boxing

Three Irish boxers can upgrade their medals at the European Elite Championships in Sofia this evening.

Sisters Aoife and Lisa O'Rourke have both guaranteed themselves at least a bronze after winning quarter-finals yesterday.

They both take to the ring in the evening session today.

Jon McConnell can qualify for the gold-medal fight in the light-middleweight, if he beats Nabi Isgandarov.

First up today, Jude Gallagher has a lightweight quarter-final against Spain's Ewart Andrés Marín Hernandez.
