GAA to Rule on Re-introduction of Pre-season Competitions

The Central Council of the GAA will decide this weekend whether to bring back pre season inter county competitions for 2022.

It had been expected that the various competitions would be scrapped in line with a revision of the fixtures calendar.

Some counties have expressed an interest in their revival.

The competitions particular to Leinster would include football’s O’Byrne Cup and hurling’s Walsh and Keogh Cups.

Kildare GAA has confirmed that it has not yet received either a Draft or Official fixture list for the 2022 Allianz League.

The Kildare confirmation comes after a Tyrone based on-line social media account, focussing on Tyrone GAA matters,  tweeted a list of fixtures last night, one which had Kildare travelling to Omagh on January 29th to play the All Ireland champions in the opening League fixture.

It also contained an entire League fixture list across the Division 1 campaign, which included Kildare away to Dublin in Parnell Park:  a most unlikely scenario.

Croke Park usually issues a Draft fixture list first, inviting counties to make any submission regarding dates and times, after which an official list is issued.
