Co. Board Convention Tonight; Hazard Retires; World Cup QF Schedule

 

The annual GAA County Board convention takes place tonight in the Osprey Hotel, Naas.

All the outgoing officers will be returned unopposed.

Treasurer Alan Dunny will report a surplus of €1.1 million for the year.

€650,000 of that will be transferred to the St. Conleth’s Park Development Fund, which will now stand at €1.65 million

A total of €819,000 has been spent on the project so far, but no redevelopment work has begun.

Team preparation expenses were €839,000, while payroll costs were €93,000

 

Belgium forward Eden Hazard has retired from international football at the age of 31.

Hazard won the silver ball at the 2018 World Cup in which Belgium finished third, but he has struggled for form and fitness in recent years.

Belgium were knocked out at the group stage in Qatar.

Real Madrid player Hazard made 126 appearances for Belgium, scoring 33 goals.


The quarter final line up for the World Cup in Qatar is now complete after Portugal beat Switzerland 6-1 last night and Morocco eliminated Spain on penalties.

Brazil and Croatia play on Friday at 3pm, followed by the Netherlands and Argentina at 7 o'clock.

On Saturday, Portugal versus Morocco at 3pm and England vs France at 7.


The All Ireland club hurling championship semi finals will clash with the World Cup final on Sunday week.

St Thomas' are to play Dunloy at 1.30, with Ballygunner up against Ballyhale Shamrocks from 3.30.

The World Cup final kicks off at 3pm, Irish time.


Steve Borthwick is expected to be in charge of England for the Six Nations Championship.The Rugby Football Union sacked Eddie Jones yesterday, bringing the Australian's seven year tenure to a close.

Borthwick is a former England forwards coach who guided Leicester to the Premiership last season.

Today’s horse racing is in Dundalk from 1.30.
