The actor leaves guild after Oscars slap
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts says it accepts the resignation of Will Smith and says it will "continue to move forward" with disciplinary proceedings.
The actor has left Hollywood's most famous guild, after hitting Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars last weekend.
It happened after the comedian made a joke about his wife's hair loss condition.
