Not an outright ban on handgun ownership
Canada is introducing a bill that will ban the sale of handguns.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government is proposing the law, making it illegal "to buy, sell, transfer or import handguns anywhere in Canada".
Mr. Trudeau added "As we see gun violence continue to rise, it is our duty to keep taking action".
However, the ownership of handguns would not be illegal.
The proposal comes less than a week after 19 children and two teachers were killed in a school shooting in Texas.
Victim funerals
Tributes have been paid at the funerals of two of the 19 children killed.
The funerals have taken place in Uvalde.
Some mourners were seen holding teddies.
The other victims will also be remembered at services over the next two-and-a-half weeks.
