Two Irish nationals are among those onboard the MV Hondius, which is currently moored off the coast of Cape Verde
The World Health Organisation says a rare virus linked to rats may have been passed between people on a cruise ship.
Three passengers have died after contracting Hantavirus following an outbreak on board the MV Hondius.
Two Irish nationals are among the total number of around 150 passengers.
The ship is currently moored off the coast of Cape Verde.
There are plans to medically evacuate two patients.
Local health officials say passengers won't be allowed to disembark yet "to protect the population".
The HSE says the risk to Ireland is low and the Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of the two Irish citizens on board and providing consular assistance.
