Hottest day of recent heatwave in Northwest of country
Parts of the US have seen temperatures top 46 degrees Celsius on the hottest day of an intense heatwave.
In Portland in Oregon the boiling hot weather caused power cables to melt.
Temperatures reached 43 degrees Celsius in Seattle, usually a region better known for rain.
The heat has been caused by a dome of high pressure over the Northwest, worsened by climate change.
