All US troops to leave the country by 31st August

Joe Biden says he "doesn't regret" pulling American troops out of Afghanistan, despite Taliban gains.

Taliban insurgents now have control of approximately 65% of the nation, after taking control of significant regional capitals.

The US President says it's now up to the local government to defend the country, saying Afghan leaders must "come together" & "fight for themselves".

Adding the US "trained and equipped" the Afghan forces "with modern equipment" over the 2 decades US troops have been in the country.

Yesterday the Taliban seized 2 more cities in Afghanistan, one approximately 200km outside Kabul.

Farah city, capital of the same-named province, was also captured, and Pul-e-Khumri in Baghlan.

On Friday, the group first captured provincial capital in the Nimroz Province.

Then on Saturday, Sheberghan was taken control of, the capital of the northern Jawzjan province.

On Monday, the Council Chief of northern Sar-e Pul, says militants met little resistance as it overran the area.

Taleqan, in the northeastern province of Takhar was also captured.

The group also took control of most of the key city of the Kunduz province.

Both UK & US authorities are advising their citizens to leave the country, as the security situation worsens.
