A road safety and crime prevention talk in relation to the junction took place on Tuesday evening at Punchesown Racecourse
Concerns have been raised in relation to Beggars end five-road junction near Naas.
A road safety and crime prevention talk took place on Tuesday evening at Punchesown Racecourse, where over 70 people attended.
A safety assessment of the crossroads, as well as speed reduction measures and junction redesign options were sought.
The talk, led by Naas Gardaí, outlined that there were 21 incidents in past few years and eight of those were classified as serious with potential loss of life, adding that there were a number of near misses aswell.
Gardai also highlighted t-bone style accidents.
Last year, Fine Gael Councillor Fintan Brett asked for a traffic assessment, while Cllr Sammon asked in traffic data in February.
As of now, Kildare County Council still have not carried out a traffic assessment for the junction.
There was no official representative present from the council at the meeting on Tuesday.
Evie says it's not good enough to do a traffic assessment and just place it on a junction improvement scheme, when it’s taken four years to get data etc. and the amount of incidents that have happened there.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fine Gael Councillor for Naas Municipal District Evie Sammon said that a complete road redesign was needed:
"I think it would take a complete redesign of the road. The sheer number of people using that junction has increased significantly."
"All they're looking for is a layout that doesn't cause confusion for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, something that reduces the risk of collisions and makes the road safer for everyone else."
