The Samaritans annual report has revealed that almost 1,000 calls a day nationwide were made to their centres.
The main concerns of callers include mental health, loneliness, isolation and family.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Deputy Director of Samaritans Newbridge, Joe Fennell said that loneliness seemed to be the main concern for callers in Newbridge.
"Looking at the stats for ourselves in Newbridge, I would say loneliness seems to be highest number of calls that we get."
"In the papers today it said that Ireland is the loneliest country in Europe, with 21% of people interviewed saying that they suffer from loneliness, so it correlates with our figures, which is very worrying."
