The reduction occurred from 2016.
There's been a drop of almost 40% in the number of households in Kildare assessed as having a housing need.
KCC has released its annual report for 2020 today.
It shows that, in 2016, 5,5725 families or individuals were deemed to need social housing.
However, by last year, that had reduced to 3,104.
This may be partly attributable to the increasing number of households in the county in receipt of the Housing Assistance Payment, some 2,398.
People accommodated via the HAP scheme are considered to have their housing need met.
