The issue was discussed in Dail Eireann
The Dáil has heard that Kildare has the second lowest number of Gardai per head of population, behind Co. Meath.
Sinn Fein TD for Kildare North Réada Cronin made the statement while asking for a breakdown of where Gardai in the county were stationed.
Responding, the Department of Justice said there were 428 members of An Garda Siochana assigned to the Kildare Division, a 12% increase since 2018.
That includes 152 members in the Kildare district, 110 in the Leixlip district, 166 in the Naas district.
€2.3 billion has been allocated to An Garda Síochána with the aim of adding between 800 and 1000 new recruits next year.
