Kildare County Council have said there are 16 faults outstanding for more than 30 days across Kildare, three faults outstanding for more than 60 days, and 78 faults outstanding for more than 90 days.
They added that the average time taken to repair public lighting faults over the past 12 months is approximately five days, admitting that "repair times can be significantly longer where works require the involvement of ESB Networks".
Speaking on Kildare Today, Social Democrats Councillor for Celbridge-Leixlip MD Nuala Killeen said there is a number of lights that have been in disrepair for over 90 days:
"There are 78 [lights] that are in disrepair for more than 90 days, that's three months, so it's really those that I want to focus on, I don't want long-standing faults to continue to be the norm."
"It's not really an issue now but I know that coming into September it starts to become an issue when the weather deteriorates and people need the public lighting. I wanted to flag it now so that we're not in the middle of October or November going 'hey, why didn't anyone pay attention to this'.
"It won't be long now until it becomes an issue and a concern for people when lighting goes down in a neighbourhood," she added.
