The figure was revealed during a recent Athy municipal district meeting
There are currently 900 applicants on the Athy municipal district social housing list.
The figure was revealed during a recent Athy municipal district meeting.
The question was raised by Labour Councillor Mark Leigh.
Speaking on Kildare Today, the councillor admitted that the figure was "nowhere near where it should be", but believed that progress has been made.
"The last time I asked the question was 2024, there was 1,300 on the list, including 951 in Athy alone, we have come some way towards reducing the list."
Cllr Leigh said that the council couldn't provide a breakdown of applicants per area in the municipal district at the time the question was raised.
