Lucan Man Found Guilty Of The Murder Of His Friend In 2024

He will be handed the mandatory sentence of life in prison.

A man in his 30's has been found guilty of the murder of his friend in 2024.

35-year-old Tomas Cypas of Foxborough Road in Lucan had pleaded not guilty to the murder of 49-year-old Juris Kokenbergs

On the 26th of October 2024 Juris Kokenbergs died after suffering fatal injuries as the result of an assault at a home at Old Bridge Park in Lucan.

Tomas Cypas claimed he was acting in self defence at the time and had no intention to kill his friend.

The two men had been drinking together before the incident occurred.

After just under seven hours of deliberation, a jury at the Central Criminal Court today returned a verdict of guilty by a majority of 10 to 2.

Judge Paul McDermott remanded Mr Cypas in custody to the 23rd of March for victim impact statements and sentencing.

He will be handed the mandatory sentence of life in prison.
