The Kildare area has the highest level of Adult abuse reporting in Ireland.
It is one of the findings of a new survey released to mark Adult Safeguarding Day.
Adult abuse is described as when someone’s rights, wellbeing or safety are not respected by another person.
Abuse may be emotional, psychological, financial, physical, sexual or cyber.
The survey found that more than two-fifths of people in Ireland have personally experienced some form of adult abuse, but few actually report it.
Celine O’Connor, HSE Principal Social Worker for the HSE Kildare, West-Wicklow, says reporting is vital.
