The Maynooth-based councillor narrowly lost out a fortnight ago
Maynooth-based Labour councillor Angela Feeney is requesting permission from the High Court for a full recount of the Seanad Agricultural Panel results.
Ms. Feeney, who currently sits on the Clane-Maynooth MD narrowly lost to Fine Gael's Maria Byrne by 0.116% in the complex Seanad vocational panel voting system two weeks ago.
While she was granted a recount of the final count in that election, she has not yet received a full recount of the entire Agricultural Panel vote.
Under Section 54 of the Seanad Electoral Act 1947, an unsuccessful candidate can request a full recount if the High Court grants permission.
Ms. Feeney had 14 days, until this weekend, to request the court's approval for a petition, which the court has now granted.
Her petition will be reviewed at an unscheduled date in the future.
Any decision regarding the petition must take into account the opinions of all other candidates and the returning officer.
However, this move will not prevent the Seanad from sitting, and any change will only occur if her petition successfully overturns the Agricultural Panel election result.
