U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and his wife, Irish-American academic and civil rights activist Jane Sanders, will begin a three-day visit to Ireland on Sunday, starting in Athy, before continuing to Cork.
The couple’s plans includes meetings with trade union members and community activists.
The visit begins on Sunday, May 25, with a public welcome at Athy Library at 2pm, followed by a plaque unveiling by Jane Sanders at St Michael’s Cemetery at 3pm
Supporters of Palestine held protests during Sander's last visit, criticising him for not declaring what is happening in Gaza as Genocide.
There are concerns among organisers that similar protests are expected during his latest visit.
“I am the leader in the United States senate in attempting to block military aid to Netanyahu and the horrific war against the people of Gaza. So I have no apologies to be made. I’m leading that effort and proud of the work that we are doing,” he told The Irish Times.
