Mary Leadbetter is best known for her writings and in particular, the Annals of Ballitore

Ballitore is preparing for the 200th anniversary of the death of local poet Mary Leadbetter.

The celebrations take place on Saturday 27th of June-the day of her death- with a number of events planned to commemorate her life.

She was born in December 1758 and died on 27 June 1826.

Mary Leadbetter, who was the half great grand aunt of the explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, is best known for her writings and in particular the Annals of Ballitore, she is buried in the Quakers burial ground at Ballitore.

The Ballitore Burial Ground Restoration Group of volunteers have been involved in the restoration and regeneration of the historic Quakers Burial ground in the village of Ballitore, which includes caring for her grave.

The group will also be erecting an information sign indicating the location of Mary Leadbetter's grave and is also offering local schools and youth organisations an opportunity to join or organise a guided tour of the Burial ground during the period before and after the anniversary.

The launch will feature an address by John Mac Kenna, the well known author and play write and expert on Mary Leadbetter.

Following the book launch there will be an exhibition of contemporary art and crafts reflecting on her life.
