The school have invited past pupils of the schools to share photos, memories and memorabilia.
Ballyshannon Primary School is celebrating 125 years since opening today.
The celebrations kicked off at 11 o'clock this morning and include music, mass and refreshments for people celebrating.
Speaking on Kildare Today, principal of the school, Lorraine McGovern, said that the pupils are very excited for the celebrations:
"They're all prepared for singing, taking part and playing the ukulele throughout the morning."
The school have invited past pupils of the schools to share photos, memories and memorabilia.
"We've had people visiting over the last number of weeks, we're actually gathering more information about the school."
She added that they have learned that the school has actually been in existence since the mid 1800s, with the current building in place for 125 years.
There is also a time capsule being put together to hopefully be opened by future pupils in 25 years time:
"It's one we've been putting together over the last number of weeks, future generations can look back and see where school life is today."
Ms McGovern urged people to continue to come forward with memories and photos from the past.
