Bank Of Ireland Donates €10K To Kildare Wildlife Rescue After Diesel Spill Kills Swan

The bank has apologised.

Bank of Ireland has donated €10,000 to Kildare Wildlife Rescue after a major oil spill at Kilbogget Park in south Dublin last week.

The spill, linked to a diesel delivery at the bank’s nearby data centre, severely affected local wildlife, including a swan family.

One cygnet died, but others remain in care.

The bank has apologised.

Kildare Wildlife Rescue says the donation will help fund rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: "It’s been a challenging time. We are saddened to report that one of the cygnets did not survive due to the severity of the oil spill. The rehabilitation of oiled birds is an intensive process, requiring careful monitoring and gradual recovery."

They added: "Our team remains focused on nurturing the remaining swans and ensuring their road to recovery is as smooth as possible. As we continue to monitor wildlife at Kilbogget, we’re also caring for another swan family from a recent spill in Kilminchy, Portlaoise. Both families have undergone washing by our skilled team and will stay at our centre until they’re fit and ready for their safe return home."
