Speaking exclusively to Kfm, Cllr. Clear has revealed he will contest the next General Election as an Independent
Kfm has exclusively learned that Cllr. Bill Clear has resigned from the Social Democrats party.
Speaking to Kfm, Cllr. Clear said he made the decision with "a heavy heart" and it's "not one that was made lightly."
The news comes after the Social Democrats selected Aidan Farrelly as their candidate to replace Catherine Murphy on the ballot in Kildare North for the next General Election.
Deputy Murphy announced this year that she will retire at the end of the current Dáil term and Cllr. Farrelly was selected as her replacement in July.
Cllr. Clear told Kfm that he feels he "has an awful lot to offer the people of Kildare North" and that leaving the party and becoming an Independent is the best move for him "personally and politically" at this time.
Cllr. Clear expressed his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Social Democrats, especially Deputy Murphy.
He recently topped the poll in the Naas Municipal District in the local elections, with 1,975 first preference votes.
He confirmed to Kfm that he will contest the upcoming General Election as an Independent candidate.
