Gardaí have been dispatched to the Canal Bridge in Sallins following alleged reports of the discovery of a military item.
According to initial information, a man fishing in the area stumbled upon what appears to be a military item submerged in the water.

In a statement to Kfm, a Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of a suspicious device by the Grand Canal in Sallins at approximately 3:30pm earlier today, Wednesday, 8th of May 2024. The services of the Army Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit have been requested. The surrounding area has been evacuated in order to facilitate the work of the Army EOD."
