New figures show burglaries in the Kildare-Carlow Division fell by 20% during the first three months of 2026, despite a national increase.
Burglary rates across the Kildare-Carlow Garda Division fell by 20% during the first quarter of 2026, according to new figures.
There were 118 recorded burglaries in the division between January and March, down from 148 during the same period last year.
Nationally, however, burglary numbers increased by 2%, with 2,161 incidents recorded in the first three months of the year.
Speaking on Kildare Today, PhoneWatch Managing Director Eoin Dunne said the national increase is partly due to burglary levels returning to normal after falling during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He added that Ireland remains a very vigilant country, with many homes protected by monitored alarm systems, helping to deter would-be burglars.
