There are also calls for a clear plan when it comes to land acquisition by the council
A local councillor has called for increased sports facilities in Naas.
He also cited the need for development levies to be within used local areas for improved facilities.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Independent Ireland Councillor for Naas MD Bill Clear says facilities have to keep up with the increasing residential development in the area:
"The Government are telling us we've to put in thousands and thousands of houses, but they're not really funding us for amenities like pitches and basketball [courts] etc.
"We have to take the bull by the horns in Kildare and make sure our development levies are going towards our areas, a small development could create tens of thousands of euro, a big development could be up by hundreds of thousands euro, even with the existing parks we have to improve them."
Cllr Clear added that he "wants to see where money is going to", when it comes to land development fees, also remarking that KCC get "outbid on land all the time".
In response, KCC says eventhough they have no standalone land acquisition strategy for sporting facilities, that they the need for additional recreational, amenity and community infrastructure is guided by the policies and objectives of the Kildare County Development Plan 2023-2029 and its Open Space and Outdoor Recreation Strategy.
In addition it says it remains "alert to opportunities to acquire strategically located lands for sporting, recreational and community purposes where these are consistent with identified needs, represent value for money and can support the long-term delivery of amenities for local communities".
