Fianna Fáil Councillor Brian Dooley for Athy MD has raised a motion for the council to carry out an audit of vacant or closed premises in Athy and
Castledermot.
The proposed audit was to identify the owners of the properties and to gain an to gain an understanding of their awareness of the supports in place to reinvigorate these buildings.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Cllr Dooley said that it is something that is "on everyone's doorstep", adding that such buildings have become an "eyesore".
"Part of the motion was to make it known to people that there are so many streams of grants and funding out there."
He also mentioned that eight properties in Athy and "around" seven properties in Castledermot have been either handed over to the council or a Compulsory Purchase Order carried out by the council.
