There have been calls for a fencing to be installed amid safety concerns of a 10m drop in Monasterevin playground.
An existing bridge by the playground which hasn't been raised before, has been brought to the council after locals highlighted the issue.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fine Gael Councillor for Kildare-Newbridge MD Kevin Duffy said that it just needs a small, simple fence on one side:
"When observed from an adjacent property, you can see the sheer drop."
According to Cllr Duffy, there is a "no-mans land" situation between Waterways Ireland and the council and that's it's something he's still "trying to pursue with them".
Kildare County Council have stated that the structure forms part of the Grand Canal infrastructure, which is under the ownership and management of Waterways Ireland, adding that they would refer the issue to them.
"There hasn't been any incidents and issues to date, but we'd like to see something done so that nothing could happen."
Cllr Duffy accepted that the plan was a work in progress.
