There are calls for the "highly popular" 883 bus route in south Kildare to travel on Sundays.
The bus currently only runs six days a week, and serves Athy, Kilberry, Kildangan, Nurney and Kildare Town.
Councillors are waiting to see if the request will be approved, and if so, a letter will be sent to the National Transport Authority.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Labour Councillor for Athy MD Aoife Breslin said that the bus service is a lifeline for local people:
"It's a highly popular service, it has meant a lifeline to so many different people being able to visit family and friends, the local link services have been fantastic for the south of the county.
We have been bereft of local transport, these [services] have opened opportunities for people."
Cllr Breslin said that many people had asked for the 883 route to operate on Sundays:
"I just feel on Sunday, when a lot of people are off and have time to visit family, that this will add to the service, and it's been a request of a lot of people across south Kildare."
