Information obtained through a parliamentary question has revealed the current waiting time for occupational therapy services in Kildare
Kildare South and Labour Party TD Mark Wall has today called for urgent action to address the long waiting time in Kildare for older people to see occupational therapy services.
Information obtained by Deputy Wall through a parliamentary question shows that the current waiting time for occupational therapy services in Kildare is approximately 169 weeks, or 3.25 years.
In response to this, the HSE stated that the long wait time is due to the inability of the service to meet the demand within the current capacity.
Deputy Wall said that many of these older people are "left trapped in hospital beds or their own homes due to the inability of the health service to meet the demand that’s there".
He also said that the Government needs to forward plan, as the older population is expected to increase to over 1 million people in 15 years.
