Commuters who were issued with fines said they have been parking at there for years.
Carlow commuters were shocked last week when they were hit with an €80 parking fine at a busy location where they’ve parked for years.
Without warning, Kildare County Council issued fixed charge notices on several vehicles parked along the grass verge at Prumplestown, Co Kildare last Wednesday.
The popular parking spot is located on the Carlow side of Castledermot, just off Junction 4 of the M9 and used daily by local commuters.
While the location is in Co Kildare, it is mainly used by Carlow commuters, who were the ones effected by this sudden clampdown.
Commuters who were issued with fines said they have been parking at that location for years.
In response to questions by the Carlow Nationalist, Kildare County Council commented:
“Motorists are not given prior notice to issuing of fixed charge notices; motorists are required to park legally and in accordance with the Road Traffic Act and regulations.”
