Castletown House Parklands To Open From Dawn To Dusk Following Meeting With Minister Boxer Moran

Pedestrians will have access to Castletown from 7am until 10pm

From today, Castletown House Parklands in Celbridge will be open from dawn to dusk following a meeting held yesterday with Minister Kevin Boxer Moran, The OPW, The Gardaí, public representatives and local lobby groups.

The Parklands at Castletown will open from 7am until 10pm.

Some attendees described the meeting as "constructive".

A dispute about access has meant that Castletown House has been largely closed to the public for 19 months.

Castletown House will open from Monday July 7th for free tours and the Park Run will be re-instated and it is hoped some family events may happen in August among the measures announced.

In a statement from the OPW it stated:

"The Office of Public Works (OPW) is delighted to announce the re-opening of Castletown House to visitors with effect from Monday next 7th July 2025.

Following on from constructive dialogue with elected representatives from Kildare North and Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District, An Garda Siochána and the local community groups, progress has been made in relation to the access of essential service vehicles. As a result the OPW is pleased to announce a return to dawn to dusk hours for the parklands and the House re-opening to the public once more for guided tours.

This is positive progress in re-establishing the great facilities and amenities that Castletown House and Parklands have provided in the past. Information concerning the tours, times, and tickets are available on www.castletown.ie

We must remind visitors that there will be no general visitor parking for Castletown House, at this time. Visitors should use public transport or active travel, such as walking or cycling, to visit Castletown House and Estate. There are limited accessible parking spaces available in front of the House, which can be accessed via Lime Avenue. Further details on how to travel to Castletown is available on Travel to Castletown.

The Castletown Parklands will open from Dawn till Dusk for visitors. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead, and away from the lake area."

Speaking to Kfm Kildare North Social Democrat TD Aidan Farrelly attended the meeting and welcomed the progress made:
