The number of virus cases rose sharply over August.
This led to fears of a new virus wave due to the Delta variant and a possible surge leading up to winter.
Professor Philip Nolan is President of Maynooth University and chair of NPHET’s modelling group.
He says the situation seems to be improving.
Prof. Nolan is appearing before the Oireachtas Committee on Health, whose membership includes Kildare North Fine Gael TD, Bernard Durkan.
