Community Groups In Co. Kildare Awarded Over €340,000 Funding

For upgrade of local facilities

16 Community Groups in Co. Kildare will receive funding of over €340,000 in total, to upgrade community centre facilities.

Centres in Ballyteague, Bishopsland, Carbury, Rathangan, Cooleragh, Straffan & Ardclough received maximum grants of €25,000.

Grants have also been awarded to Athy Recreational Centre, Kildare town Family Resource Centre, St Laurence's and Two Mile House GAA & community centres in Kilteel, Leixlip, Castlefen and Kilcock. 

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, announced the successful projects - nationwide - under 'Our Rural Future'.

Local politicians have expressed their delight regarding the news, Fine Gael Kildare South TD & Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon said, “Community centres are valued shared spaces and are very much at the heart of our Kildare towns and villages. I know this funding will have a huge impact and will assist in making them even better in the provision of services to people all across Kildare.”

Deputy Heydon continued by noting the funding "will deliver high quality capital projects for community facilities that bring benefit to local communities across Kildare".

Fianna Fáil Senator O’Loughlin said, “We all know the huge contribution made to our communities by local volunteers and community centres.”

“We have a wide breath of community facilities in South Kildare and provide a place for people of all ages to meet up and socialise with friends, old and new.”
