Wolfe Tone Private Cemetery sits adjacent to Bodenstown Graveyard, which now has very limited space
A private cemetery in Sallins is advertising plots for up to €12,500, where loved ones can be buried near where Wolfe Tone is laid to rest.
Adjacent to Bodenstown Graveyard, where Wolfe Tone is buried, Wolfe Tone Private Cemetery has announced the opening of the newly developed and extended Wolfe Tone Private Lawn Cemetery.
The private cemetery has approximately 1,400 plots available, which they have advertised in a pre-open sale on their website.
Each plot accommodates 1-3 burials, or 4 urns.
There are four differently priced plots, with the prices being based off the proximity to Wolfe Tone’s grave.
The starting price for a plot is €5,000, which will get you a ‘standard plot’, followed by a ‘premium plot’ from €7,500 and then to a ‘gold plot’ from €10,000.
A ‘platinum plot’ is the most expensive, starting from €12,500, which is the closest plot to Wolfe Tone.
Wolfe Tone Private Cemetery is owned by Amendoeira Developments Limited, with an address in Clane.
The company director is Mr. Seamus McCarthy, who has been in the role since 2014.
Concerns have been raised by locals, who say there are already limited spaces in Bodenstown Graveyard, and questions are being asked on what will happen when the public cemetery is full.
Speaking on this morning's Kildare Today programme, McCarthy stated the purpose of the private cemetery serves all people, and there is a commercial reality to it as people overseas can bury a loved one in the Wolfe Tone Private Cemetery.
In response to this, TD for North Kildare James Lawless said better communication could have been made between the local community.
McCarthy has said anyone with questions regarding the private cemetery can contact him through details on the Wolfe Tone Private Cemetery website.
