Residents are concerned.

Concerns have been raised regarding the new cycling lanes in Newbridge.

Concerns have been raised by residents especially in relation to people with disabilities getting in and out of cars.

Cllr. Chris Pender commented: "The car doors don't open out fully onto the cycle lanes.

"But I have raised on concerns to the council, " he insisted.

He said children need to be made aware of cyclist and should be taught that cyclists are road users too.

He also said that while he recognised that many people in the area were angry, he said " where there is change there will always be someoe who is angry about the situation."

"There needs to be joint up thinking and people need to be aware that the cyclist are there," he insisted

Cllr. Pender thinks that the council should hold a public consultation open day to discuss the issues that residents have.

The new cycle lanes and the layout of road markings are a safety concern for all Newbridge motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and residents.

This new layout was neither properly thought out, planned or implemented. Newbridge needs its main street restored to its former layout as quickly as possible, before someone is hurt or badly injured.

This layout will make it impossible for emergency services to get through,  putting lives at risk.

However, a petition against the cycle lanes has been set up

Ian Murphy commeneted: "The new cycle lanes and the layout of road markings are a safety concern for all Newbridge motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and residents.

"This new layout was neither properly thought out, planned or implemented. Newbridge needs its main street restored to its former layout as quickly as possible, before someone is hurt or badly injured.

"This layout will make it impossible for emergency services to get through,  putting lives at risk," it said.

The petition can be found by clicking here.
