Research has found that the cost of solar panels in Kildare has reduced by 39% since 2020.
A new report released by Energy Efficiency Ireland has revealed fresh insights into the cost, size, and adoption of solar panels by households in Kildare and across Ireland.
Kildare households invested more than €62.3 million in home solar PV panels, supported by over €12.1 million in SEAI grant funding.
One in every fifteen homes in Kildare (5.65%) received a Solar PV Scheme grant between 2020 and 2025, with a total of 5,578 installations.
The average cost per kilowatt peak (kWp) of solar in Kildare fell from €2,835 to just €1,728 over the period (-39%). These figures include the additional cost of battery storage in around half of installations.
In 2025, the the average system size in the county was 6.14 kWp (about 14 panels). This is compared to just 3.88 kWp in 2020.
It analysed over 100,000 Solar PV Scheme grant-supported installations nationwide, finding that home solar panel systems in Kildare are now 58% larger on average than in 2020.
