KCC has given an update on the completion of the flood prevention measures in an area of Rathangan.
It's in relation to the River Slate from Rathangan to its confluence with the River Figile near Derrymullen.
The council say the Drainage Maintenance Team has carried out river maintenance there, while the areas upstream of this, including Derrymullen will be inspected and scheduled for maintenance in September if required.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fine Gael Councillor for Clane-Maynooth MD Brendan Wyse said that a homeowner had to deploy sandbags to deal with flooding a few years ago:
"We did have an issue a few years ago where it flooded near it's source, someone had sandbags at their back door and that's the first and only time that someone had to protect their house with sandbags [in the area].
"In Derrymullen, the water is rising up to the back of some gardens there."
Cllr Wyse added that the main issue at hand is drains and ditches leading to the river that need to be cleaned, rather than preventative measures for the river itself.
