They say there are extensive works required to bring this estate up to standard
Kildare County Council have said that they are progressing with the taken in charge of Friary Estate in Castledermot.
They say there are extensive works required to bring this estate up to standard as they prepare cost estimates and move forward to tender for construction works.
KCC have recently completed a snagging of the estate with a view to formally taking the estate in charge.
They also say that a contractor has carried out investigative CCTV surveys of the foul and storm networks, which are both said to have known issues.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fianna Fail Councillor for Athy MD Veralouise Behan said it has been a frustrating process for those living there:
"It's been a frustrating process for people who bought their houses there 20 years ago, and are still dealing with this, it's just subject to available funding, we're being assured that they are working on funding and that it's coming forward."
It's hugely important, it's been a huge issue continuously over the last number of years."
Cllr Behan hopes that the process can bring more positive results compared to previous council work done there:
"Staff from the council were there previously for a survey that didn't yield any results, but I'm assured that the process of taking it in charge is fully underway, and that the council will take on the duties such as resurfacing, a lot of different issues are in there."
"It needs to be sorted, it's gone beyond getting sorted at this stage, it needs to be done immediately
