Kildare County Council have signed an €18.18million contract for a new library in Newbridge.

They have signed the contract with Townlink Construction Ltd for delivery of a library, county archives and cultural centre.

The project is being partly-funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.

It's being described as a "landmark" project, to be located on the Athgarvan Road.

In April, KCC announced a temporary relocation of Newbridge Library to Liffey Lodge.

The development will see the refurbishment and regeneration of the historic library building, originally constructed in 1936, with a substantial new extension which will replace the existing branch library building, constructed in the 1970s.

The design was developed by Metropolitan Workshop Architecture and Urbanism, supported by the consultant team including JCA Architects, AECOM, and BB7.

The project is being managed by the Special Projects Team in Kildare County Council.
