The councillor had raised a question at the last Newbridge-Kildare MD meeting
Independent Councillor for the Newbridge-Kildare MD Pat Balfe has asked the council to identify the biggest gaps in youth services for the area.
Cllr Balfe also requested for concrete actions and timelines to be outlined to address
gaps, during last weeks MD meeting.
Speaking on Kildare Today, he explained the wider issue at hand
"You're looking at a lack of youth workers, who are badly needed to deliver services."
Cllr Balfe also expressed the need for the youth services approach to be more "preventative".
"There are quite good services in terms of targeted youth work, but what we need is a more universal approach, in terms of early intervention so young people don't get into areas where they are finding difficulty."
In response to his question, Kildare County Council accepted that there was a "long-standing gap" identified for a lack of dedicated youth spaces, as well as this, they acknowledged that the shortage of youth workers was a "key challenge", but added that they are not responsible for the recruitment of youth workers, with other named bodies having a remit regarding youth services in Kildare.
