It comes as a detailed breakdown was requested for the developments levies collected within the area
Critisicism has arisen surrounding the use of development levies generated from the Maynooth area.
It comes as Fianna Fáil Councillor Donna Phelan raised a motion at a Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting for a detailed breakdown to be provided for the developments levies collected within the area.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fianna Fáil Councillor Donna Phelan criticised the lack of reinvestment in Maynooth, despite growth in the town:
"The reality is that is the development levies collected in Maynooth aren't ringfenced for Maynooth, and a large portion goes into a countywide pot and can be spent anywhere in the county. There is no public breakdown on what Maynooth generates versus what Maynooth gets back."
"We've been waiting years for the Harbour field development, we still do not have a community centre, we do not have a pool, and we don't have any council owned public playing pitches within the district."
In response to her motion, Kildare County Council said that "a split between development contributions collected on residential and
commercial development is not available".
They also estimated that €14.4m of development contributions would be generated in Kildare
per annum.
