Curragh Family Resource Centre Receives Funding Under Expanded Mental Health Initiative

Curragh Family Resource Centre

The local centre is among 29 organisations to benefit from Government funding aimed at expanding access to community counselling services.

The Curragh Family Resource Centre is among 29 other community organisations set to benefit from new Government funding aimed at expanding access to counselling and talk therapy services.

Mental Health Minister Mary Butler has announced a €3 million investment in community-based mental health supports, including €1 million in recurring annual funding for a new partnership between the HSE and Community Therapy Ireland.

The funding will support 29 counselling and psychotherapy organisations nationwide, including the Curragh Family Resource Centre, and will help deliver an additional 9,000 nationwide counselling sessions by the end of the year. The expanded services will focus on new clients, particularly young people and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Minister Butler said "Our partnership with Community Therapy Ireland will help expand access to counselling services across the country while strengthening quality, governance and outcomes. This is about ensuring that people receive the right support, in the right place, at the right time.”

The announcement builds on the Government's Men's Free Counselling initiative, which has supported more than 5,200 men since launching last September, with over 18,000 counselling sessions delivered.

Minister Butler said the investment will improve access to early intervention mental health supports and ensure more people can receive professional counselling in their local communities.

The Curragh Family Resource Centre received €40,117 under this expanded mental health initiative. The centre is located on 1 Griffith Road & McSwiney Road, in the Curragh Camp. They offer a wide range of services and programmes such as therapy, family support, FLOURISH Youth Resilience programme, social groups, afterschool clubs, baby wobbler & toddler group, parenting support and workshops, information and advice.
