Gardaí have searched a Defence Forces barracks as part of an investigation into alleged child sexual exploitation involving a serving soldier.

The investigation, according to the Irish Independent, centres on alleged use of communication technology to facilitate the sexual exploitation of a child under 17, an offence under the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years.
No arrests have been made.
The soldier under investigation has been placed on special leave and no finding of wrongdoing has been made against the soldier at this time.
The Defence Forces confirmed it is cooperating fully with the Garda inquiry.
